Tutorial for Merlin Bird ID App
A short, accessible tutorial video made for the Merlin Bird ID phone app by Cornell Lab.
This was a solo project meant to demonstrate minimalist principles when communicating information to a user and to provide a comprehensive tutorial on a small, virtual task. It was developed using storyboarding and scripting for thorough planning and was completed using screencasting with Camtasia software.
My Merlin Bird ID tutorial concisely and comprehensively shows the steps to complete a bird identification using the “Sound ID” function within the app. To give the tutorial extra substance, I provided an example scenario of identifying an unknown bird in my yard to show a real-life use and relatable scenario for the app and this function.
Accessibility was an important factor that I wanted to ensure within my video, so the voiceover captions are permanently on the screen, and were reviewed for accuracy.
This project resulted in a easy-to-follow resource for users to identify a bird via Sound ID with minimal process questions. It also resulted in lessons learned for my future projects, such as a better filming setup and angle and more accessible features that describe what is being shown on the screen.

Single Source Content Development
Modular content for technical user guides using a single source content model in MadCap Flare software.
This was a team project that resulted in the compilation of three proof-of-concepts for the single source content: two pdfs and their corresponding html files. I had the role of Team Manager, where I organized and ran the team meetings, assigned actions to my team members, and offered direction when questions were had. As a team, we fully reorganized, reformatted, and stylized the information provided to create newer, more engaging content.
The process of organizing, formatting, and stylizing the content was done solely in MadCap Flare, using self-made template files for Concepts, References, and Tasks. The templates provided a uniform format for the team to easily create a cohesive product. I adjusted these templates and the file settings using HTML and CSS.
This project resulted in modular content that was stylized for both web and paper products, offering a range of interface possibilities for technical user guides.
